Introduction to Watercolor Painting Supplies For Beginners

is probably the most convenient of all the painting mediums. All you really need to get started is a box of paint, a few brushes, water and some paper. There are no toxic solvents or mediums to be concerned about and your brushes can be cleaned with a little soap and water. This convenience makes watercolour painting one of the most economical painting mediums as well. This article will provide an introduction to the more popular supplies that a beginner should consider investing in.

PAINT

Watercolor paint is made by mixing powdered pigments along with a water soluble binding medium. In the beginning you will do fine by using a cheaper brand of paint, but you will definitely enjoy a much better painting experience if you use artist quality paints. Artist quality paints use more high quality pigment and are noticeably richer and more vibrant. After you become more comfortable working with watercolors, you should then consider upgrading to artist quality paint. Paint is available in both pan and tube form. The main difference between the tube and pan paints is that the tubes have more glycerine and they tend to be more water soluble. Read more

Title: “Silent Beauty”

Medium: Watercolor

Comments From The Artist: I am familiar with oils and I would say I am accomplished in Oils.  However, I  have not touched a brush of any kind since 1986 when I lost my son in an accident.  I failed to see beauty for many years.  This time has passed and at the persuasion of my husband and a friend who gave me some watercolors and paper, I tried to do watercolor.  I am teaching myself and observing many different techniques.

The fist one was done and 3 years passed, I have now resummed full speed ahead to get my feet WET.  “SILENT BEAUTY” is my second finished project.  Finding and allowing myself time seems to be the biggest problem.  I am enjoying.

Technique of Watercolor Painting: WC07 PLANNING

By John Blenkin

Plan or not to Plan? The outcome of the painting will be vitally affected by the decision to either plan the work or starting head down without any idea how the painting will finish.

It is not a matter of preference but of personality. To a great extent the subject will decide the issue. A painting of a building a design a specific place – a record painting a commissioned painting will usually lead the painter into an approach where pre-planning naturally results.

In this type of work pre-planning will reduce errors and the target idea will more likely to be realized. Any measured work – enlarging – portraiture anything technical animal bird or plant illustrations are usually best planned beforehand. Professional work to deadline is a pre-planning must.

In general where the subject of the painting has to conform to the requirements or standards of others or to a specified known standard for a fee by a certain date it is best to pre-plan.
