Title: “My Angel” (My Daughter Stepheny)

Dimensions: 16×20

Medium: Acrylic on Canvas

Comments By The Artist: This is my very first portrait painting I attempted (daughter, Stepheny). I began painting with acrylics earlier this  year, and I LOVE IT! I used to draw as a child and recently felt there was something more creative inside of me. My daughter has been a blessing and an angel to me and I feel that love has shown through in this painting. I have now done some florals, seascapes, and others will be coming. I hope to make this not just a hobby but a living in doing what I love, and by selling paintings, I hope that others can also be touched by that love that I put into the creations.

Comments By The Artist: I was really drawn to this image, I saw it on a horse rescue calendar. I contacted the publisher of the calendar and got the name of the owner of the image, and received permission to paint it.  I changed the background, and added color to the horses coat and repositioned the horse on the canvas.

Title: “Inside The Box”

Comments About This Painting: “Inside The Box” is fifth in my box series. It was originally something totally different. A painting that was not working so I decided to make it part of the series. I covered the old painting with gesso leaving some of the original by scraping some of the gesso off the paper. The diamonds are gel beads. I cut the stencil out of contact paper and repeated the shape with paint. I blocked out the yellow line across the top with torn pieces of blue painters tape. The other colors were made with successive layers of Golden Fluid Acrylic paints. I keep layering the colors letting them dry between layers. The lines at the top and the bottom were done with corrugated board. I defined some of the shapes in the middle by gradating them. There is no collage in this painting. This painting is a process which is how I work. It  took months to complete.

Medium: Acrylic on Canvas

Randall’s Comments: I saw this seen at Va. Bch., my hometown, snapped a pic, and went directly to my studio and sketched it out. After re-sketching several times, I finally got all the proportions just right, and layered in the whole scene in this format: top to bottom and back to front. I am really pleased with my result. I am also the website creator and maintainer for the Chesapeake Bay Art Association, a club of around 60 artist members in Norfolk, Va. Title: “West River”

Dimensions: 26×38

Medium: Watercolor on Paper

Website: www.spyglassstudio.com

Susan’s Comments: The West River feeds Canandaigua Lake, one of the Finger Lakes in upstate New York. I painted this after a canoe ride up the river and loved how the light reflected on the water and the trees. I have been painting since childhood and have recently returned to my studio after founding and being an executive director of an art center since 1995.

Donald’s Comments : “I did a plein air at this same spot last winter looking in the opposite direction on the river. I saved this scene for a large studio work.”
