Very well done! Very realistic clouds, trees on the hills, shadow on the road…

Love your painting! I’m always amazed when someone gets a building to look realistic. I’m terrible at buildings! Great colors!

    Hi Yves,

This is a lovely painting in oil and you have captured a quiet little area that I would love to explore! Your buildings are very well done as is all of the foliage well depicted.

I would like to make a few comments.

I do like the movement and angles you have created in your work by using the shadows, colors in the trees etc. One area that bothers me a little bit is the contour of that cloud shape that rises above the church steeple. More impact would have been to have the church steeple rise and take a bite out of that lovely blue sky shape giving it a contrast or conflict against the sky! It is difficult to see the steeple in front of the clouds and is repetitious to have the clouds rise and follow the shape of the steeple.

I do like the fact that we can see those little buildings in the background, down the hill! Maybe have either the right or left side in the foreground have a little more importance over the other, to create a center of interest. This could be done by adding a bit more color, especially that lovely orange from those trees in the background, into one of those buildings to give us a “wow” factor and center of interest. It would also tie the foreground into the background. By softening some of the edges, less importance would be created in some areas, and by keeping edges sharper, more importance would be created, and therefore a VARIETY would give the painting overall interest. A variety of shapes in the greenery would also add interest.

Remember that these are only my comments and you are the artist! You have made a connection with me the viewer, which is important in being a painter. I would really like to know this little area you have painted! ;-) )

Thank you so much for sharing our work with us and happy creating!

    Ingrid ;-)

    Hi Yves
Lovely to see a little view of Canada. We also live close to Little River, although in New Zealand it is surrounded more by bare hills – apart from sheep. Once over the top of the highest hill you get the most magnificent view over Banks Peninsular and everything changes.
Anyway to your painting – I loved it – I loved seeing the architecture of the church and the house – very well done – good perspective. Shadows are good over the road – generally speaking it is all lovely.
    Jayne
