    Hi Patti,

Yes you have created a very peaceful painting and I do feel that I can walk out to the water! You did a beautiful job with the sky and clouds. I congratulate you for adding that orange to the grasses below, connecting the color of that bright tree on the right side of our painting to another area of your painting. You have also placed the horizon line in the lower third of your painting. GOOD!

Now for my “nit pickiness”!!!!! When I look at your painting with my “magic squint”, I see a BIG light inverted triangle shape (the sky) flanked by two dark triangle shapes (the two evergreen trees). Then I see three bands: The horizon green band, the lake band, and the green with orange foreground band. This is the basic design of your painting. For a more interesting design, lets juggle those shapes around a bit. Let’s remove the tree on the left, keeping the nice big tree shape on the right, and then move that bright orange tree in the right hand corner to the left of the big tree and add those red flowers in front of it to the foreground shape. Then soften, break, or lose some edges in the far horizon line to create some subtle interest back there to break up that solid green shape. Maybe even add a bit of that blue from the sky or the lake to that green to push that shape back more. Finally, move the sailboat in the lake just to the left of the orange tree that you have moved to the left of that big tree. By doing this, juggling those shapes around, you will have created an interesting painting. It will have a classic “L” shape composition in landscape painting!

I will remind you that this is only my opinion and that YOU are the artist and have the FINAL SAY!

Keep painting and thank you for sharing with us!

    Ingrid ;-)

A lovely warm sunny day – makes you feel you are there. One criticism – I couldn’t find the light source, I think all pictures benefit from contrast. I was looking at the two trees at the front expecting to see some lighter areas but there were none. Otherwise a lovely picture

Nice painting but could have a little more contrast and more motion at the water surface, that looks too quiet. Anyway I liked it.

Patti, your work is beautiful. I like the cloud shapes against that blue sky. I do think the distant hills should recede a bit, perhaps soften the edges to add depth, but as Ingrid says, only an opinion and you are the artist. While I can look at someone else’ s art and think that I might do it different. it is never a matter of right or wrong. Now I say you go out to that beautiful lake and skip a stone across the water.
