I don’t know much about painting but what I do know is that this is a great piece of work. It’s impressionistic, no? Who is this lady?
karen Jones on Sun, 24th Aug 2008 2:10 am
I like the whole of your painting, but the shapes making the nose, bothers me a little. You have used good skills in this painting. Continued sucess.

Thanks to each of you for taking time to view and comment on my painting. LeAnne, my 29 year old daughter, served as the model. She doesn’t charge a modeling fee. ;-o) I took several photos of her posing in our yard and used a couple of them as guides. My technique on this paining is looser and more impressionistic style than usual. It is far from being an exact duplicate of the photos, as my own flowers were rather sparse. I tried to balance warm and cool colors to create the mood of gentle spring day.
Again, thanks for the feedback!!

Your use of composition principles was very good. Using the hem on the dress along with the rock wall and the flowers in the background to form a “S” composition worked very well. It kept the viewer in the painting. I like the way you reflected colors in several areas of the painting, such as the blue hat ban reflected back on to the hat brim and the flower colors repeated in the dress. Hands, as you well know, are very difficult to do correctly. You did a fine job on them. The nose does give me a little problem but without seeing your reference material, it’s hard to say if it correct or not. I did review your website. Very impressive. Keep up the good work.

Beautiful painting!! Could it be that impressionism is coming back? The soft strokes and colors are so soothing (for lack of a better word). Maybe a slight bit of yellow ochre in the flowers to add contrast. . . but, oh, such a wonderful painting!!

I am truly honored and humbled by your comments. Thank you all for taking time to view and remark on this painting, and for each of you who additionally visited my web site. Your encouragement is a blessing. I started painting 17 years ago at the age of 40 and have been fortunate to study under some wonderful teachers. I benefited from many excellent books and videos and I learned from each. Often, the lesson learned, was ….there is so much more to learn!!
Again, thanks to each of you!
