Title: “Inside The Box”

Comments About This Painting: “Inside The Box” is fifth in my box series. It was originally something totally different. A painting that was not working so I decided to make it part of the series. I covered the old painting with gesso leaving some of the original by scraping some of the gesso off the paper. The diamonds are gel beads. I cut the stencil out of contact paper and repeated the shape with paint. I blocked out the yellow line across the top with torn pieces of blue painters tape. The other colors were made with successive layers of Golden Fluid Acrylic paints. I keep layering the colors letting them dry between layers. The lines at the top and the bottom were done with corrugated board. I defined some of the shapes in the middle by gradating them. There is no collage in this painting. This painting is a process which is how I work. It  took months to complete.

I am not really into modern art but I think your use of colour and form is very good. A nice job.

I love your work and envy the workshop with Mary Todd Beam! It was reading her book ` Celebrate your Creative Self ` that opened up a whole new approach to my painting which in turn opened up a whole new me. The freedom of emotion is apparent in your paintings and to me, very inspirational. I have a fair way to go before I can produce such beautiful work but I understand the path that you tread. FABULOUS!

    Hi Marie,
This is an interesting creative work of art that allows the viewer to explore and discover ALL areas. I especially like the fact the this is a recycled painting! CONGRATULATIONS!
Just a small suggestion from me would be to connect the top dark section to the colorful lower section with maybe a thin red line extending up into the dark, or a thin dark line extending down into the red section. This is a YUMMY piece and a feast for the eyes!

I am looking forward to seeing more of these!

    Ingrid ;-)

I would’ve for sure thought it had components of collage. Artist: Illusionist, very nice job in that manner. Contrasting shape and color is always a turn on.

I really like this painting, I like the colors, shapes and the depth. I wish I had more words. I can’t seem to find them, but, I really like it. Great work!

Not sure I understand it but who cares….I like it!
There’s a flow to the painting that walks you around it.
    Nicely done.

My first reaction – Wow – outstanding art. Then I read it was collage, I have only done a little of this so don’t feel qualified to comment. But my overall comment would be to say ‘I love it’ – well done.

I am not sure when it comes to abstracts but considering that you re-did this painting I think you did a great job..the colours and you’ r description are great

I love your artwork Marie, you really have taken my vision to a different perspective. For me it looks like kind of an Abstract painting, but still I can see some movement and life within it. Good job ! Keep it up. Thus art is all about.

I really enjoy this piece. It’s got a quiet, rythmic movement to it and lots of place for the eye to play!

a really stunning image and I really like the way you have maintained the liveliness in the colours, even though you have overlayered them – they are crisp and bright – not muddy. A really well thought through and well executed piece. Congratulations

Marie Cummings is the inspiration to humankind. She “goes” for it. I have not taken any art course from Marie. I am her friend.

Marie is the risk taker, imagination designer, and KNOWS to walk where another path is truly easier, but no, her path is that “other” road to “what’s around that corner” and wham, there is her painting(s).

Maybe it’s her Greek heritage that brings her the aliveness to art and life. Maybe it’s because Marie truly lives the passionate life. I have found that her paintings show exuberance and a wake-up call to the colors that we see (yet at times) do not see.

All I know is abstract is not everyone’s gig. Yet, when I read the reviews for this web site, I marvel at the honesty of those who wrote abstract is not their flavor, yet, they were drawn to her painting. What a great tribute to Marie’s ideas and for her not being afraid of trying another road to art. Yeah . . . Marie!
