    Hi Gordon,
Wonderful atmosphere you have created. Coldness of the snow and the darkness of night but yet with light shining through – and the single track of footprints – makes you wonder where they are heading into the trees. Well done.

    Hi Gordon,

You may not realize this, but painting with only three hues is a very good thing, besides saving money! It is a wonderful way to unify your painting which you did so well in “Footprints In the Snow”!

I like the overall DRAMA in this work and by using only three hues, it helped to create this effect.

I, however, would like to make a few comments. Remember that this is only MY opinion and you have the FINAL SAY because you are the artist!

As I squint down at your painting, the sky is very dramatic and painted very well. But in the right hand corner, there are two sharp dark shapes, one curved (above the moon) and one pointed, across the moon, that seem confusing to me. All of the other cloud shapes are soft and sit in the background, but these two shapes, because of their dark values and hard edges, seem to come forward in the sky. By softening the edges and lightening the values a bit, they will sit in the background of the sky.

My next comment has to do with the tree line. All of the trees seem to look the same, forming that gentle curve. This is a wonderful chance for you to vary the textures, the height and width, and values of those trees. It is a pretty dominant shape in your painting and calls out for more variety. Maybe even having a negative space, interrupting the tree line would be helpful! The white on the tree top in the distance could be softer for being back that far.

I LOVE the footprints in the snow, making us wonder who it was that walked there, and wonder where they went. It also adds mystery to your painting!

Good EMOTION! Thank you for sharing with us, keep painting and practicing, and using only three hues! It works very well!

    Ingrid ;-)

I really love the colors I can feel the cold. It is very serene. The foot prints are a nice touch. Good work

    Hello Gordon,
What a nice painting, and with only three colors. Your sky is fantasy-like, and I like the footsteps that follow the fence line. Where I live they are predicting 8 inches of snow by Saturday and temperatures around 2 degrees. So I much prefer looking at the winter in oils.

Simple but good.I like it like that. I also like pictures with a few color, like orange, black and yellow.

    Hi Gordon,
I feel the theme has been ambitiously chosen and yet has been done fantastically but for …a) the sky is too dramatic and b)the trees could have been done better.
overall It is amazing….. Good work

    Hi Gordon,
    Love your colours and footprints.
I do feel you need more variation in the trees, but over all a very lovely painting.
Thank you for showing and keep painting.

Lovely concept, and use of 3 colors is good, an excellent way to stretch your abilities.
It may sound like Ingrid is tearing your work apart, but she has some valid points. Everything in the sky should be lighter than the slanting plane (the background trees) and the vertical plane (the foreground). So you could take her suggestions and improve the depth of your painting. I live in snow country and I’m working on a painting of the winter sun coming through tall trees right now. Horizontal plane( the ground) would be the next lightest after the overhead plane (the sky), but snow is an exception to this , and you’ve done it nicely. I hope my current painting comes out half as good.
