Very well done…..it looks like the barns I saw out west in the praries in Canada.
I especially like the bush on the right…just a little eye-catcher to make you look around.

You did a nice job on the barn. It is a little dark to see everything, but I really like what I can see of it!

I went to your blog site and decided I had to comeback and make a further comment.
Your mountains on several of your other paintings are SUPURB!!.

Your skill with a palette knife ( if I am guessing correctly) is excellent….I wish I could say the same for myself.
I wish you the best in your future art work.

Peaceful is the word that first comes to my mind when I saw your painting. Even the title is inspiring it makes me want to write a story to go with the old barn. What mysteries lie within it’s weathered walls.? I am not a professional artist so I am not one to give any real criticism, constructive or other wise. Art to me should be something that evokes a sense of purpose.Your painting has definately done this for me.Thanks for sharing.

Hi Christy, I am a novice painter trying to be an “artist” so I hardly qualify as a critic. I only know what I like and I like your painting!. I seem to be drawn to the simpleness of the scene…the three elements, background, foreground and barn. To me, I know I like something when I want to look at it more than once. Your grass in the foreground is very good. I struggle with that and wonder if you would share your technique either publicly in this forum, or a personal email.

I was raised in Nebraska and Wyoming so this scene reminds me of home.Your colors are beautiful and the scene very peaceful but proud. Great work!!

    hi christy!!!
really awesome painting this and all those at ur website… this is one of the most realistic paintings i’ve seen. it almost look like digital pictures. the way u’ve painted the grass is wonderful. but u look like a very strict artist who does not like to experiment.
i’m not a professional, just a beginner, and here is some inspiration for me.

all the best for all ur future works.

    Great Barn!!

Wonderful picture, just like out west here in Canada. You have captured the serenity and beauty of prairie life. Fantastic job!

The theme is very nice, serene. The composition is very good.
From what i can see (no sharp shadows) the sun is not shining. There is some cooleness in the light, and so i would expect the shaded part of the barn to be somewhat warmer, to break the overall coolnes, in my view, of the scene.
Other than that it a nice painting, indeed.

I love the simpleness of the subject - you have captured solitude, you’ve got just the right balance to keep interest in the subject, which is the barn. Very well painted - love it.

    Wonderful perspective.
Highly inspiring location. This is where I want to go when the noise and negative energy in the city is on my nerves. Cos when I come back, it will be like a re-birth.
    Great job Christy.

    Hi Christy,
You have captured the feeling of loneliness in your painting, and one wonders what “stories” this barn could tell! So many old barns are ‘falling by the wayside’ in today’s world, and by having painted it, you have preserved it. Nicely done!

One of the things I like to do when I paint buildings that have dark shaped areas in them, as the barn door and the two shadow areas in your barn, is to put some of the color from the surrounding areas of the painting into these dark shapes. Maybe some of the blue from the sky could be put into the doors of the barn or into those dark shadow shapes. Some of the green from the grass could also be used in these dark areas. By doing this, those dark shadow shapes and doors would be a bit more interesting to look at. I know that you do not see this when you are looking at the photo of the barn, or the barn in front of you if you are painting on location, but it would be a great way to connect the barn (via color usage) to the rest of the painting.

Keep up the good work and happy painting! Thanks for sharing!

    Ingrid ;-)

I am impressed. The grass looks so…real. There’s a slight mist in the atmosphere too. Great job.
