Comments From the Artist: My son needed art on his living room wall in his new home. He’s got a bottle collection and I thought this was a good fit for him. I found a similar picture on the internet and modified it a bit.

Hi Angeline,
How lucky for your son to have a very nice painting that YOU have created for his new home! An added bonus is that you have chosen a subject in which he has an interest.
The shapes that you have used show a nice variety and they, in turn, have created interesting negative shapes, tying the background in with the positive shapes of the bottles. You did a fabulous job with that background!
Your use of color is good. Maybe having the bright yellow -orange short bottle moved into the front, away from the right side of the painting, and having it take a bite out of the red and blue bottles, would create more of a focal area. Then by adding some of that yellow-orange hue into the bottles surrounding that little bottle, and also into the foreground area, the colors would be a bit more unified. By moving some of that very bright red found in the top of the red bottle to the white bottle at the left, and also into the some areas of the blue bottles, you would be connecting the painting with a strong warm color harmony. Some additional blue accents could be added to the brown bottle too, especially where the blue and brown bottles meet!
I LOVE the shape of that white bottle! Maybe, also, lose some of those edges where the bottles meet the surface on which they are sitting. This would create a variety of edges and therefore, an interest, in an area that has a prominent shape.
Good job! Keep practicing, keep painting! Thanks for sharing!

Wow! Thanks for the input! I’ve only been painting for eight years and appreciate any feedback!

Hi Angie,
You are WELCOME! Looking at one’s own work to critique is very difficult. It is always easier to comment on work that is not one’s own.
Keep up the good work!

Except for the 2 blues together (which seemed to detract from color scheme) I like the idea and painting. Does your son appreciate it?

Hello Angeline,
I loved your painting. You get an 9.2 out of 10. On the right of the front bottles A hairline black shadow, would make them stand
out. However I liked the effects of not knowing which is in front or
back. Keep up the great work.

Lynn,
My son appreciates it so much, I painted him another, the same size and completely different color scheme. He had a huge blank wall and it needed attention. The next painting was more of a water jug style with a deep hued background. I didn’t love it as much as this first one. We didn’t throw it away, tho’ so I guess it wasn’t terrible!
Thanks to everyone else for the feedback! Ellen, 9.2?? Cool! thnx
