Blick Presents – Winsor & Newton Artist’s Watercolor
Winsor & Newton Artist’s Watercolors have been around since 1832 and since that time they have been producing some of the finest watercolor paint known to man. Winsor & Newton currently offers 96 beautiful colors in their line and a lot of these are single pigment colors, and with single pigment colors, you get brighter and cleaner mixes. Winsor & Newton Artists’ Watercolors are also slightly resistant to re-wetting. This makes it easier to lay washes and glazes on top of one another without your colors getting muddied.
In this video, the folks over at Dick Blick Art Materials discuss the differences between the Winsor & Newton Artist’s Watercolor that is available in both tubes and pans. There is most certainly a difference and this video will help you decide which kind of watercolor paint is best suited for your particular watercolor painting needs.
Both the pans and tubes are professional grade paints. Both have both pigment and the gum arabic binder but there are some differences.

How to Get Started in Encaustic Painting
Getting Started in Encaustic Painting With Artist Kathryn Bevier
Below is an excellent video from artist Kathryn Bevier on how to get started in Encaustic Painting. She discusses all of her favorite tools and supplies that she uses and exactly what you will need to get started.
I only just started learning about this very interesting medium after viewing the art work of artist Jasper Johns at the Museum of Modern Art not too long ago.
Encaustic Painting (also known as Hot Wax Painting) is a very unique painting medium that uses heated wax combined with pigments. This mixture is then applied to certain supports such as wood or canvas. There are different ways to prepare an encaustic medium. One method is to simply add colored pigments to a heated beeswax. Another is to purchase ready made encaustic paints that are usually available in tins or blocks.

Soft Pastel Drawing Tutorial Step by Step
About Kari Tirrell
A self-taught artist, Kari Tirrell spent her formative years drawing animals and people. Both subjects continue to factor largely in her work today. She paints predominantly with soft pastels and has a great love for realism. “People often comment that my paintings look like photos, but I’m not aiming for photorealism. I try to make whatever I’m painting look like a painting, but still appear to be real.”
Kari Tirrell relocated from California to the Pacific Northwest in 1992. She is a member of the Northwest Pastel Society, Pastel Society of the West Coast, Peninsula Art League, and is a juried member of EBSQ Self Representing Artists. Tirrell has won numerous awards, and her work has been purchased by private collectors around the globe.

I was born in England, raised in Canada and now live in Calgary, Alberta. I paint full time and am very active in various art groups in Calgary and British Columbia. My work is know for a bold use of colour and value. I work in watercolour and acrylic and I am very inspired by the land, the people and the moods of Western Canada. I was a public school teacher for 20 years and this has helped me to earn a growing reputation for teaching drawing and painting.
I am really pleased to announce that I have just created a brand new web site. In addition to featuring my art, it also includes my almost daily blog of the up to the minute twists and turns of my art journey. It also includes another blog featuring the work of my students. If you get a minute check out the student blog and scroll down to the drawing class images. It’s unusual to see people improve so much so quickly. Visit my site http://rexbeanland.com
Along with his wife, Susan, I also run a videography business so creating art instruction videos is a natural integration of art and video. I love being on both sides of the camera.
You Asked: Protect Drawing on Stretched Canvas?
Sue Writes:
“I drew a still life in charcoal on a streatched canvas. I was planning on painting it in oil but I love it in charcoal so much that I want to leave it alone. Is there a way that I can protect it on the stretched canvas?”
Do you have any information that may help Sue? Please leave your response in the comments box below. Thanks!
