Sheri Lynn Boyer Doty CPSA -Biography 2010
Sheri Doty received a B F A degree in 1972 from the University of Utah with a painting and drawing emphasis. Having experimented with non-representational styles during her student years, Sheri preferred classic realism as thought by professor Alvin Gittons. He and the professors, under whom she studied, emphasized strong drawing and painting skills. Sheri is a faculty member of Salt Lake Community College and Peterson’s Art center where she teaches Fine Art and Design.
Sheri’s paintings have earned her awards in regional, national and international art exhibitions and invitational shows including purchase awards and permanent museum acquisitions. Sanford Corporation has used her artwork to showcase its PRISMACOLOR colored pencil product line internationally. Sheri is a charter member and signature member of the Colored Pencil Society of America [C.P.S.A.].
Sheri’s artwork has been published in numerous books including The Encyclopedia of Colored Pencil Techniques by Quarto Publishing, London England;Most of The Best of Colored Pencil series by Rockport Publishers, Creative Colored Pencil Techniques by Rockport Publishers, Creative Colored Pencil Portraits byri’s art work is included is Rockport Publishers and The Best of Portrait Painting by North Light Books, Dear Sisters by Covenant Communications Inc. Sheri’s artwork is published on book covers, in newspapers, periodicals, and exhibit catalogues.

About Karin
Karin Wells is an artist of amazing versatility. She graduated with honors from both the New England School of Art and Design, Boston, 1965, and the Butera School of Art, Boston, 1986. Karin has enjoyed a career as an award-winning graphic designer, illustrator and sign painter. She also taught Life Drawing and Painting for many years. She has most recently studied for three years at The New England School of Classical Painting in Greenfield, New Hampshire, under the direction of Numael Pulido.
To expand her craft, Karin has traveled throughout Europe studying the Old Masters. Her art reflects the deep influence of these great works. Karin demonstrates a remarkable facility for likeness and for the use of light.
The artist is a member of The American Society of Portrait Artists, Portrait Society of America, The Portrait Society of Atlanta, and The Copley Society of Boston.

Describe this Piece: Venice Sunset – watercolour by Joe Cartwright. Venice is such a wonderful place with a painting around every corner! I spent two weeks there in May 2010 and loved every minute of it. I wanted to capture the beautiful sunset and people walking around enjoying the atmosphere.

Landscape Painting Techniques – Learn How To Paint Clouds
One of the most challenging aspects of landscape painting is learning how to paint believable clouds. When you ask a beginner to paint a cloud, they will automatically reach for white, when in actuality, a cloud is not white. Clouds are made of water and reflect surrounding colors. This is most apparent during a sunrise or sunset when clouds turn various shades of red, orange, violet, etc.
There are many different types of clouds in nature. Everything from cirrus to altocumulus, so don’t assume you know what a cloud looks like and just start haphazardly painting. Spend some time outdoors really studying clouds and you will soon notice the many different types and colors of clouds . You should also consider the overall color scheme of your painting when deciding how to tackle the clouds. It is the relationship of colors in your painting that is most important.
Lastly, be sure to check out the resources below that I collected from various places online. The following videos and articles are all demonstrations and tips on how to paint clouds. You will quickly notice after watching these videos and reading these articles, that there are a variety of different techniques for painting clouds. There are no set rules. Top Online Resources For Mixing and Painting Skin/Flesh Tones
One of the most difficult and challenging aspects of figure and portrait painting is learning how to mix realistic and believable flesh tones. There really is no set formula to recording flesh tones. The color you use to paint flesh really depends on the rest of the colors in your painting. Its the relationship of colors in your painting that is most important. That being said however, it is always helpful to have a starting point or to see how other artists record human skin on canvas. The following post contains resources to help you. I have done my best to include information on a variety of mediums including oil painting, acrylic painting, watercolor and pastels.

Plein Air Painting Demonstration with Roger Bansemer – “Wupatki Pueblo”
In this Plein Air Painting Demonstration done with acrylics, Roger Bansemer takes us on a journey to Arizona’s Wupatki National Monument, located near Flagstaff. This site is a collection of very old ruins that spreads across many miles of desert. All of the pueblos within this area were built by the Anasazi and Sinagua Indians over 800 yrs ago. This site is wonderfully preserved and an excellent subject for painting. Included in this video is an interesting interview done by Roger’s Wife Sarah with a member of the Hopi nation about his heritage. Enjoy
